The Odet Light at Lanniron

L’Orangerie de Lanniron stands on the banks of the Odet, a few minutes outside Quimper, and the light in Brittany behaves nothing like the light in Provence. It is soft, grey more often than gold, and it changes fast. Most people read that as a problem. As a L’Orangerie de Lanniron wedding photographer, it is the reason I want to work here. Overcast light wraps a face instead of cutting it, and it holds the detail in a white dress that direct sun burns away in a single frame.

The estate is built for movement. Formal gardens and topiary allees run down toward the water, stone terraces open onto the river, and the orangery gives you shelter when the weather turns, which in Finistere it will. I build every timeline here in two versions, one for dry and one for rain, and I hand couples both before they think to ask for them.

What the Vaulted Hall Asks For

Dinner happens in a vaulted stone hall, and stone gives nothing back. It swallows light. I light that room rather than fight it, keeping the warmth of the candles while holding enough shape in faces that the last photographs of the night still read as portraits and not as a dark room with people in it. The long table under those arches is the frame the whole evening has been building toward.
