The Story
Vaux-le-Vicomte, the masterpiece that inspired Versailles. Baroque gardens stretching to infinity, gilded salons catching golden light, and a ceremony framed by the grandest staircase in France. Every angle of this estate is a painting waiting to happen.

This gallery follows one wedding day at Vaux-le-Vicomte in the order it happened. It opens on the approach to the château, the pale stone and the Dome Ovale appearing slowly at the end of the drive. The ceremony took place at the foot of the grand staircase, under a floral arch shaped to echo the baroque curves around it.
After the vows, guests moved into the gardens of André Le Nôtre for cocktails. Between the first and second parterre, the clipped hedges frame faces and the pale gravel lifts soft light back onto skin, so most of the candid portraits in this Vaux-le-Vicomte wedding gallery were made there. The evening closes in a gilded salon on the ground floor, where dinner ran by candlelight and the gold leaf on the ceiling became a warm halo behind the tables.
Vaux-le-Vicomte sits about fifty kilometres southeast of Paris, in Maincy. For the history of the estate and how I work with its light, read the full Vaux-le-Vicomte wedding story. Planning your own celebration here? Tell me about your plans.
