Tuscany Through a Medium Format Lens

Castiglione del Bosco is a Rosewood property set among the rolling hills of Val d’Orcia, and it is one of the most visually generous venues I have ever worked in. The cypresses, the stone terraces, the olive groves that stretch to the horizon. Every direction offers a composition that would take hours to construct anywhere else but here exists simply as landscape. For a Castiglione del Bosco wedding in Tuscany, the challenge is not finding beauty. The challenge is selecting which version of beauty to commit to in each frame.

The Tuscan light at this altitude is warmer and softer than what I am accustomed to in Paris. It wraps around faces rather than cutting across them, which means I can shoot portraits almost any time between 4pm and sunset without worrying about harsh shadows. The stone terraces act as natural reflectors, bouncing warm light upward and filling in under the chin and eyes. It is the kind of light that makes people look like the best version of themselves.

The Nigerian-French Wedding That Defined This Gallery

This particular Castiglione del Bosco wedding brought together a Nigerian-French couple whose celebration moved between cultural traditions with extraordinary grace. The traditional attire during the family portraits, the French ceremony under the olive trees, the evening reception on the stone terrace with Val d’Orcia glowing behind them. I delivered 53 images from this day, and each one carries the specific texture of a celebration that could only have happened here.
